Each of the UMD Civil Engineering faculty are active in research and professional activities in their focus areas. Undergraduate students have opportunities to work with faculty on research through several different mechanisms including the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP).

Special opportunities are available for post-doctoral researchers and as well as Master of Engineering students.

Engineered management of water quality in natural systems. Biogeochemistry of contaminants in aquatic sediments.

Dr. Eil Kwon
Operational and safety strategies for highway/traffic systems, adaptive control of arterial and freeway networks, highway network planning and design, intelligent transportation systems

Dr. David Saftner
Geotechnical testing, soil improvement, geotechnical design

Dr. Rebecca Teasley
Water resources systems analysis, groundwater and surface water management
