AMERICAN SKY BURIAL:
PERFORMANCE ART IN CANAL PARK

UMD students Davin Heckman and Carrie McKee will be executing a
performance art piece entitled "American Sky Burial."

Tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, April 19 (depending on the weather
and the seagulls), the performance will feature Davin Heckman, clad
in a suit of popcorn, offering himself--or at least his popcorn
suit--as a sacrifice to the seagulls of Canal Park.

An adaptation of the Tibetan Sky Burial, a sacred Buddhist funeral rite
in which the corpse is devoured by vultures, the spectacle is a
critique of American popular culture and its efforts to achieve
transcendence without sacrifice or real devotion.

All are welcome to witness the event.  It will take place in front of
the Maritime Visitor's Center.  Stop by any time between 10am and noon.
