2008 Baeumler Kaplan Holocaust Commemoration
April 29 - 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. “Zeit Zeuge - Time Witness” - a presentation of Leonore Baeumler’s Memoir Weber
Leonore Baeumler will present excerpts from her memoir, Zeit Zeuge. Leonore Baeumler was a school girl living with her parents in Nuremberg, Germany during World War II. Coerced into joining the BDM (the League of German Girls, part of the Hitler Youth), Leonore was forced to wear the BDM uniform, attend meetings and sing Hitler Rally songs. Later, she and her schoolmates were evacuated to Czechoslovakia, only to be rushed back in to German territory to avoid the Russian army. This presentation will introduce the audience to a world they have never learned about in the past. Mrs. Baeumler helped establish this annual commemoration to honor her husband's legacy in offering Holocaust education.
