2008 Baeumler-Kaplan Holocaust Commemoration Events

The Baeumler-Kaplan Holocaust Commemoration is an annual event in the College of Liberal Arts. The Lecture Series was endowed by two cooperating parties in Duluth. Leonore Baeumler and her family wished to memorialize Professor Walter Baeumler who was a revered Professor in the Department of Sociology/Anthropology at UMD. And the estate of Mortrud Kaplan, represented by Robert Karon, donated a considerable sum to insure that the lessons of the Holocaust could be disseminated to the public at large, and especially young people, in the Twin Ports area. Co-signers of the Endowment's Charter include the Baeumler Family, the Twin Ports Jewish Federation, the Estate of Mortrud Kaplan, the Chancellor of UMD, and the Dean of Liberal Arts at UMD. For more information about the series and how to donate to the fund, contact the Director of Equal Opportunity, Dr. Deborah Petersen-Perlman; or (218) 726-6849. Also, you can contact Cindy Christian at (218) 726-8616 or visit The Royal D. Alworth, Jr. Institute for International Studies; which co-sponsors the Series each year.
