COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS
Your APAS Report
APAS (Academic Progress Auditing System) produces a report, or degree audit, that reflects
your progress toward completion of an undergraduate degree in your declared or proposed major.
The APAS report shows how your University of Minnesota courses, transfer courses, and
courses in progress all apply to your degree requirements. It should be used as a tool to assist you
and your adviser in planning your future coursework.
Why Use APAS?
Your APAS report lists your degree requirements, summarizes your progress to date, and
explains what you will need to do to complete your declared degree program.
APAS draws its information from your on-line student record; therefore, each time the
report is processed you can be assured that it contains the most up-to-date information.
By summarizing the courses from which you can choose to complete your degree
requirements, APAS ensures that you stay on track and not take unnecessary courses.
APAS facilitates advising, allowing less time spent reviewing past course work and more
time helping you plan for the future.
APAS currently provides you and your adviser with information on Liberal Education and major
requirements and electives. A separate degree audit has been created for each degree program.
Students with double majors should receive two distinct degree audits.

How to Read Your APAS Report
APAS takes your Liberal Education and major requirements and electives and breaks them into
requirement "blocks." Within each requirement block there is a set of sub-requirements.
If you glance at your degree audit, you will note there will be an "OK" or "NO" or "IP" to the
left of each requirement and a "+" or "-" by each sub-requirement. If the sub-requirement has
not been met (-), the requirement will read "NO."
When there is a course-specific requirement, a "Select From" list of appropriate courses will
be printed:
NO     MECHANICAL ENGINEERING LABS
   +  1) BASIC MEASUREMENT LAB
            SP01 1ME  3031       4.0 B
    -  2) SENIOR LABS - 4 CREDITS OF SENIOR LAB REQUIRED
            NEEDS:    4.0 CREDITS
            SELECT FROM: 1ME 4131 ,4133 ,4231 ,4331 ,4431 ,5133 ,
            5231 ,4232
The APAS report shows a requirement as completed (OK) when all of its sub-requirements
have been satisfied:

An "In Progress" course is one for which you have not yet received a final grade. This
includes courses in which you are currently enrolled (which are reported on the audit with a
grade of IP):
When you have completed all of your requirements you should see this statement at the top
of your APAS report:
