Why UMD?: We are putting together a stimulating, positive, iconoclastic intellectual environment with quality Ph.D. program level faculty in an undergraduate level program. The faculty member to be hired this year follows six quality hires we have made during the last six years. All of this new blood provides a very dynamic research environment which our supportive administrators recognize and encourage. We are seeking candidates who would be attractive faculty candidates for good Ph.D. programs. In order to stimulate research, we provide excellent start-up packages to provide resources and time needed to conduct quality research. Considering the fact that no time is spent on graduate student advising or committees, our teaching load is comparable to that of top Ph.D. programs. For intellectual stimulation and collaboration we have one another. The collegial atmosphere in the department is very positive. Good humor is highly valued. We have a very stimulating work environment with several groups of scholars meeting regularly to share research interests or engage in collaborative efforts. In addition, our faculty members develop undergraduate research teams with very good and appreciative students.
The Duluth area is a four-season tourist destination for the Northland, providing excellent entertainment, fine restaurants, superior arts programs, endless outdoor activities and protection from global warming.
