Personal Statement:
My life revolves around my wife, Amy, and our three girls, Grace, Helena, and Eve. Grace was taken from us in a car accident in 2006. We miss her desperately. Even with our heavy hearts, we enjoy living in Duluth. We bike, hike, kayak/canoe and camp as often as possible (the Boundary Waters are amazing). One of our favorite things to do as a family is explore the shores of Lake Superior. It is truly one of the most beautiful bodies of water. Recently, Amy and I have become interested in speed and endurance training. Amy participates in running events and I enjoy competing in triathlons.
Professional Interests:
I joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2003 after completing my PhD at Michigan State University. My research interests lie in the areas of social influence, interpersonal/relationship, and health communication and I am actively conducting research in all three areas. I enjoy teaching and the day-to-day interaction with students and my colleagues. The Communication Department at UMD is a positive, energetic, supportive, and fun environment in which to do research and teach and I love coming to work every day.
