The minutes of the 10-13-04 meeting were approved with no changes.
Academic Integrity A revised policy draft was distributed and discussed. This draft differs from previous drafts in two significant aspects: 1) that reporting becomes mandatory when a faculty member imposes a sanction; 2) students rights are spelled out much more clearly than in previous drafts. When reporting, faculty are asked to fill out a form to be submitted to the Academic Integrity officer. This is to insure proper documentation and uniformity. Sanctions increase in severity for multiple offenses. It was agreed that warning or reprimanding a student should not be considered a reportable offense. Plagiarism can be unintentional by students, and a warning serves as an avenue to help inform students about what constitutes plagiarism. Other minor revisions were suggested and noted. The policy will be revised based on the suggestions given by the committee. A revised draft will be e-mailed to the committee to review and share with their constituents. Discussion will continue at our next meeting. The subcommittee was thanked for their hard work in drafting this policy.
Faculty Ratio A draft report to be presented to the Campus Assembly was distributed and discussed. It was noted that at the CLA Assembly Meeting of October 6, 2004 , the following motion was approved: "The CLA Assembly urges EPC to push administration toward a higher proportion of tenure/tenure track lines campus wide." Vince Magnuson reported that in addition to the normal pool of funds available for next year, six lines have been converted from term to tenure track hires in departments that have shown the largest differentiation between term and tenured/tenure track. There will be more than 20 tenure track hires for Fall 05. The draft report to the Campus Assembly states that “EPC has adequately reviewed this issue and suggests that ECCA continue to find ways to measure the impact of this decision on the delivery of education.” It was raised by a CEHSP representative that comments submitted by psychology were not specifically noted or included in the report. The report to the Campus Assembly is a summary – many similar comments were distilled in the interest of brevity. The comments from psychology were read aloud to the group. It was agreed that the comments from psychology were valuable, but that the psychology report in its entirety need not be included in the summary, as the spirit of the comments regarding faculty ratios are already included in the current report. A notation will be added to the report stating that psychology submitted comments. It was moved and seconded that the document be accepted as written with the revisions noted above. The motion was unanimously accepted.
