Our mission is to improve and enrich the working and learning environments for UMD women by providing direction, leadership, support and expertise to the UMD community.

In working out our mission, we are fundamentally concerned with improving the climate and environment for all women at UMD. The questions that consume us: How do we preserve dignity at work, women’s rights in general, and human rights in an institution that promotes lifelong learning? How can we best serve the women at UMD? How can we continue to improve working conditions for all women in all job classes at UMD? How can we honor the exemplary contributions of women at UMD?

HER-Story: How did you come to be here?

UMD's Commission on Women is taking a HER-story approach to UMD's "How did you come to be here?" campaign.

The Commission on Women would like you to tell us YOUR story as a woman in academia. What were your struggles and triumphs? How have you navigated life in the academy? How did you come to be here at UMD?

Let us know if you want your story to be shared with your name attached, anonymously, or simply added to the archives.

IDS will be sifting through the stories from those who would like to share for an article that will be published in the IDS Newsletter. All will find their way to the Commission on Women's website to be shared in a spirit of sisterhood and mutual support.
