Commission Members

Female representatives to the UMD Commission on Women are elected as follows:

  • Up to six faculty members, one from each of the six academic areas (CEHSP, CLA, CSE, LSBE, SFA, Med/Pharmacy);
  • One member from among the senior administrators;
  • Two members from the Professional and Administrative staff;
  • Nine members from the Civil Service staff (up to five bargaining unit staff, up to four non-bargaining unit staff);
  • Up to three members from graduate/professional and/or undergraduate student populations, appointed by the Commission to serve.

The Commission on Women positions are two academic years in length and elections are held each spring (approximately half of the positions are elected each year). The Commission meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 12:00 to 1:30 PM, during the academic year. The expectations for service include attendance and active participation at Commission meetings, participation on two committees, attendance at and promotion of Commission functions, and responsiveness to constituency and to the broader population of women on the UMD campus. The time commitment comes to about 4-6 hours a month.
