Underage Consumption of Alcohol
On- and Off-Campus Violations
Sanctioning Guideline 2009-10

These sanctions are for a police citation and are not Housing sanctions.

UMD Student Conduct Code
Possible sanctions for on- and off-campus violations

First
Violation

  • e-mail letter of warning

Second Violation
  • alcohol education program
  • chemical dependency screening (student account charged)
  • probation, suspension, or expulsion
  • parental notification
Third Violation
  • chemical dependency assessment (student billed for cost)
  • other sanctions, as appropriate (e.g., probation, counseling, outpatient treatment, suspension, or expulsion)
  • parental notification
Fourth Violation
  • suspension or expulsion from University
Detox/Hospital
If a student is transported to detox or hospital, he/she will be required to complete a chemical dependency assessment (student billed for cost) and placed on probation. Parents may be called and a follow-up letter sent when University officials are aware of the incident, as this is considered a medical emergency.
Additional Information

Duluth Court Fine

It is your responsibility to call the number on your police ticket [(218) 726-2464] to determine the amount of the fine and whether a court appearance is required.

Parental Notification

Parents may be notified on serious cases (e.g. student goes to detox or hospital), when a student receives a second or subsequent underage consumption ticket, or if the University is concerned about the student's well-being.
