Office of Student and Community Standards

Off-Campus Jurisdiction

Effective fall semester 2009, the University will be adjudicating for both on- and off-campus violations.

  • Except for students on disciplinary probation, students will start with a “clean slate” for fall semester 2009 only.
  • For first-time violations such as underage consumption of alcohol and disturbing the neighborhood, an e-mail warning or acknowledgment will be sent to the student. Repeat violators will be required to meet with the director of the Office of Student and Community Standards (OSCS) or a member of the Review Board.

  • For first-time violations that are more serious (e.g., assault, sale of drugs, sexual assault), students will be required to meet with the director of the OSCS and may be sanctioned according to University guidelines.

  • Traffic violations, such as speeding, proof of insurance, and vehicle registration, will not be adjudicated.
  • Parental notification for alcohol violations (for students under the age of 21): Parents may be called and a follow-up letter sent when University officials are aware that a student has been transported to detox or hospital, as this is considered a medical emergency. In addition, parents may be notified when a student receives a second or subsequent alcohol citation (e.g., underage consumption of alcohol, under 21 drinking and driving, DWI), or if the University is concerned about the student’s well-being.
