With a world-wide membership of 80,000, the Association for Computing Machinery functions as a locus for computing professionals and students working in the various fields of Information Technology. UMD has a very active student ACM chapter that sponsors numerous events including programming and gaming contests and student-faculty picnics.
U.M.D. I.E.E.E. Chapter
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers is a technical professional organization of more than 350,000 members in 150 countries. It is a leading authority in technical areas ranging from computer engineering, biomedical technology and telecommunications to aerospace and consumer electronics. U.M.D. has a local student chapter housed in the E.C.E. Department.
