The Dean
Dr.James P. Riehl
James P. Riehl is a Professor of Chemistry and came to the Swenson
College of Science and Engineering in August 2000 from Michigan
Technolocal University, Houghton, Michigan. In addition to his
duties as Dean, Dr. Riehl maintains a laboratory for work largely
centered around the use of circularly polarized light in experiments
aimed at probing the structure, reactions, and dynamics of chiral
molecules in solutions.

The Associate Dean
Dr. Timothy B. Holst
Tim Holst is a Professor of Geology and has been Associate Dean
in the Swenson College of Science and Engineering since 1990.
He has been at UMD since 1979. As Associate Dean he has responsibilities
in student affairs, faculty development, and academic affairs.

The Assistant to the Deans
Ms. Janny B. Walker
Janny Walker, Assistant to the Deans, responsible for public
relations in the College and student recruitment, orientation,
advisement, and registration.

Organization of the College
The Dean reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Adminsitration,
who in turn reports to the Chancellor of the University of Minnesota,
Duluth. The Dean is in charge of most of the administrative aspects of
the college, while the Associate Dean and Assistant to the Deans oversee
most of the Student Affairs issues.
