RIDE THE DTA

Ride DTA busses free with your U-CARD! The three-year U-Card/U Pass Program, which was established in September to address the construction related reduction of on-campus parking, was an overwhelming success in its first year with the DTA providing an average of nearly 1,000 rides a day during fall and spring semesters. Parking congestion on campus was minimized this year as a direct result of the U-Card/U-Pass Program. It has become increasingly more difficult to find convenient on-campus parking during UMD's expansion. More than 700 campus parking spaces will have been eliminated due to on-campus construction, which is expected to continue for the next two years. In addition to free unlimited rides on the DTA, UMD students living in the lower campus residential area and near city bus routes are able to ride the #20 U-Bus Campus Circulator service. Access further information and bus schedules at the DTA web site: www.duluthtransit.com/umd.htm or locate the site by scrolling through "Services" on UMD's home page, then click on "transportation".

UMD honored Minnesota State Senator Sam Solon with the dedication of the Solon Campus Center on August 15 in front of the Campus Center. Approximately 300 members of the community as well as state and area leaders attended the public ceremony. Chancellor Kathryn A. Martin said, "Senator Solon has been a strong advocate for UMD for more than 30 years. He is a loyal friend with vision, commitment and leadership who has helped guide UMD in its role of academic excellence and accessibility to all Minnesotans. We are enormously grateful for all that he has done, and we are very proud to honor him in this way." Senator Solon is a 1958 graduate of UMD with a Bachelor of Arts degree in social science. He was first elected to the Minnesota House in 1970 and to the Senate in 1972. He is currently serving his 9th term.
