   The Commission on Women is currently accepting grant applications for the 2001-2002 academic year. Grant information and applications are available online at: Please contact Nancy Damberg at 726-6966 for an application in an alternate format. Applications for small grants ($300 or less) are accepted throughout the academic year. The application deadlines for major grants ($301 - $1000) are November 15 for spring semester programs and April 15 for fall semester programs.

administrative NEWS

   On-campus residents generously donated $1700 to the victims of the World Trade Center disaster through the “Penny for Peace” drive and the “Residents to the Rescue” drive. The money has been donated to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Thanks to everyone who contributed.

   A food drive, sponsored by the UMD Statesman, will be held Monday, November 26 through Wednesday, December 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Drop off your non-perishable food items at the table in front of the Statesman office in Kirby Monday through Thursday of each week. Donations will be given to the Salvation Army for distribution.

   There will be a color film reprint special through November 17. Some exclusions may apply.
On Wednesday, November 14, Lise Lunge-Larson will sign her book The Race of the Birkebeiners from noon until 2 pm in Campus Books. Linge-Larson immigrated to Minnesota from Norway in 1974. Since then she has been entertaining children with her stories of trolls and other magical creatures. She has written three books: The Legend of the Lady Slipper, The Troll With No Heart in His Body and Other Tales of Trolls from Norway and her most recent publication, The Race of the Birkebeiners, a medieval adventure of the race to save Norway’s child prince from his enemies.
   There will be a 20% off book sale on Wednesday, November 21. Some exclusions may apply.
There will be a color film enlargement special from Monday, November 26 to Saturday, December 1. Some exclusions may apply.
From noon to 1 pm on Wednesday, November 28, Kathy Isola will sign her books, The Lakewalk is a Cakewalk, In Dreams, and her newest book, Amaranth and The Magic Garden.
   On Wednesday, December 5, Campus Books offers free holiday photos from 11 am to 1 pm.
On Thursday, December 6 and Friday, December 7, the UMD Stores will hold their annual 20% off holiday sale from 8:30 am to 6 pm in the Kirby Rafters. On Thursday and 8:30 am. to 4 pm on Friday, Gamma Sigma Sigma will be in the hallway (outside the Rafters) to wrap your holiday gifts for a minimal fee.
   All UMD Stores (Bulldog Shop, Campus Books, Computer Corner and Marketplace) will be closed from Thursday, November 22 through Sunday, November 25.
   From November 19 - 21, get 20% off of Thanksgiving cards and candy in the Marketplace.
   There will be a Used Computer Sale from 10 am to 2 pm on Wednesday, November 14 in the Kirby Ballroom sponsored by the UMD Computer Corner and ITSS.

The Library will be closing at 7 pm the night before Thanksgiving, Wednesday, November 21.

   The UMD Life Fitness certified personal trainers (P.T.) are ready to help you: 1. design a exercise program that fits your specific needs and goals, 2. break down any confusion you may have about how to use equipment, 3. give you courage to get on and stay on a effective exercise program, 4. give you the basics on nutrition, and 5. improve your flexibility. and 6. improve upon your present athletic abilities.
