SEE IRELAND WITH CONTINUING EDUCATION
Join Continuing Education for a tour
of the Emerald Isle during winter break, January 8-20. Participants will
visit County Kerry, Blarney Castle, the Rock of Cashel, Clonmel, Dublin,
the Abbey Theatre, Sligo, Galway, Limerick, County Wicklow, the Dingle
Peninsula, and more. Along the way, a local guide and storyteller will
regale travelers with folktales, history, poetry, mythology, literature,
and other stories. Academic credit is available; financial aid may be

WADE NAMED VICE CHANCELLOR
William Wade has been named vice chancellor for University Relations.
This new position also includes responsibility for the UMD Department
of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Office of University Relations and Development
includes development, public relations, publications, alumni, photography
and KUMD radio. Wade was the former director of the Office of University
Relations and Development at UMD.
DULUTH TO MINNEAPOLIS BUS SERVICE
SchoolRider will begin non-stop service
for UMD students to the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis starting
September 20. Round trips from campus to campus are $69. For more information

RAMSEYER BIBLE COLLECTION
A new exhibition of material from the
Ramseyer-Northern Bible Society Museum Collection entitled Writing
Systems of the World is on display now through the end of fall semester
on the second floor of the UMD Library. The collection has material in
over thirty different scripts into which the Bible has been translated
at some time. On display will be examples such as Greek, Cyrillic, Hebrew,
and Arabic; different transcribing systems and specially constructed alphabets
such as those for Cherokee and Cree; along with Braille and Moone Type
for the blind. For more information contact the Library Administrative

NEW CURRENTS MAILING INFO
Currents will adopt a new mailing method beginning this fall. Individuals
can choose to subscribe to an e-mail/web version of Currents or to subscribe
to a paper copy. E-mail/web subscribers will receive a e-mail notice about
Currents on the Web for each new issue. Paper copies will only be sent
to those who request them.
To subscribe to Currents on the Web:
Send the e-mail to listproc@d.umn.edu and leave the subject line blank.
The body of the message should be of the form:
subscribe <listname> <yourfirstname> <yourlastname>
Here is an example:
subscribe currentslist cheryl reitan
Delete any signature lines or other text from the body of the message
and dont use the <or > symbols. For
further instructions see Subscribe
for an E-mail notice of each Currents issue.
To subscribe to a paper version of Currents:
Send your name, department and department address to the currents e-mail
account (currents@d.umn.edu) and ask to be put on the paper subscription
list. Use SUBSCRIBE PAPER as the message line. By the time the December
issues of Currents are printed, the old method will be phased out.
NEWS FROM THE UMD STORES
Campus Books Events:
There will be a color film reprint special in Campus Books from Monday,
October 14 - October 19.
On Wednesday, October 16, there will be
a 20% off general book sale in Campus Books.
The last day to purchase or return fall semester
textbooks with proof of cancellation, receipt and ID in Campus Books is
Monday, October 21.
Marketplace Event:
There will be a drawing for a Halloween Jack-O-Lantern in the UMD Marketplace
from October 21- October 30. Watch for the Jack-O-Lantern in the
display window!
Bulldog Shop Event:
Thursday, October 31, get up to 80% off on your favorite imprinted
clothing during the annual Bulldog Shop Halloween Balloon Sale. Shop hours
are from 9 a.m.- 6p.m.
Museum Store Event:
From 4 - 6 p.m., October 15, The Museum Store is featuring
new work by artist Betsy Bowen.
