SPA WORKSHOPS
The UMD Sponsored Project Administration (SPA) office will conduct two
identical informational workshops during September intended for all faculty,
especially those new to the campus and those who have not had experience
in the submission of funding proposals to external agencies and organizations.
Departmental staff who have budgetary responsibilities may also find the
presented information to be helpful. The sessions will be held in the
Kirby Garden Room from 1 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28 and from
8 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 29. Contact the UMD SPA office
at 726-7582 to reserve a place.

student web contest 2005
Up to five $500 awards will be given for this years student web
contest. Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for the contest.
The project is to develop a Web site for an undergraduate course and/or
Web based materials for an undergraduate course. The deadline for submission
is Friday, January 28, 2005. Each student must have an identified faculty
or departmental sponsor.

CE POSTER
Continuing Education has fall posters available, free for the asking,
featuring the Kayaker artwork by Linda Blustin. Drop into
104 Darland and pick one up.
STUDENT FEES COMMITTEE FORMS
Faculty and staff are needed to serve on the Student Services Fees Committee.
The appointment is for a two-year term. The SSF Committee is an active
committee that meets regularly from late September through early March
from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Thursdays. The committee reviews budgets for 21
organizations that provide services to students. The committee makes the
budget allocations to each as a recommendation to the Chancellor. This
is an active committee that offers an opportunity to gain understanding
of student needs and diverse areas of the campus community. If you are
interested in serving on this committee, call Kathy Skelton at 726-8969.
UMD STORES GRAND OPENING
The Kirby Plaza Grand Opening will be held from September 22-26. UMD Kirby
Plaza features the expanded UMD Stores space on street and lower level,
the all new Plaza Food Court, and DTA Bus Hub. Watch for the opening of
the Print Shop and Northern Shores Coffee Shop on the lower level at the
end of September, and UMD Childcare Center and TCF Bank in January. There
will be daily drawings and events throughout the Grand Opening week.
Soda, coffee and snacks will be given away in the
street level store from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Monday, September 20, while
supplies last.
A live remote with KRBR 102.5 The Bear will be
broadcast from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21.
A Fashion Show in the street level store will be
presented at noon and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22.
A live remote with KTCO Big Kat 98.9 will be broadcast
from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 23.
An Extreme Makeover will be held in the street
level store on Friday, September 24.
Jazz with Spontaneous Combustion will be held in
the street level store from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 25.
Take 20% off one item of UMD wear with your Saturdays
UMD Football game ticket on Sunday, September 26.
A photo special will be held in the lower level
store through September 25. A sale offering 50% off UMD Wear starts September
21 in the lower level store.
Sample packs will be given away in UMD Stores on
the street and lower level from September 28-29.
ACCESSIBLE TRANSPORTATION
Accessible transportation assistance is available on the UMD Campus. Departments
are encouraged to arrange transportation for individuals with mobility
limitations at the same time they arrange their other University-sponsored
travel transportation needs. Possible sources for this transportation
include Care Cab (723-1212) or Northern Access (728-5464). Requests for
reimbursement of costs should be submitted to the UMD Business Office,
209 DAdB. Questions regarding transportation arrangements, reimbursement
requirements, and this procedure should be directed to Greg Sather, UMD
Business Office, 726-6137 or email gsather@d.umn.edu.

and Department Heads are asked to encourage staff within the departments

conference presentations and awards are accepted. The Currents Newsletter
is web search engine friendly. All of the items sent for faculty/staff
news are available to international web browsers immediately after the
