EXPERTS LISTS
In the upcoming months UMD will begin to update its on-line Experts
List, http://www.d.umn.edu/currents/experts/. Faculty and staff who wish
to be included should submit the following information to Cheryl Reitan
at creitan@d.umn. edu: name, title, work phone, work address, home phone
(optional), e-mail address, web address (optional), and three to nine
topic descriptors. Included faculty and staff should review their listing
and submit any changes to Cheryl Reitan at creitan@d.umn.edu. changes
and submissions will be accepted until March 1.
MINNESOTA BOOK AWARDS
February 1 is the deadline for nominations to the 17th annual Northeastern
Minnesota Book Awards, presented by the University of Minnesota Duluth
Library and Friends of the Duluth Public Library. These awards recognize
books that substantially represent the history, culture, heritage or lifestyle
of northeastern Minnesota.
To be eligible, a book must have been originally released in 2004. Books
may be nominated in one of two categories: (1) fiction, poetry, drama
or (2) nonfiction, art, scholarship. Prizes will be awarded in the amount
of $300 for each winner and $100 for each honorable mention selected.

Complete a nomination form and send it, along with one copy of each nominated
book, to Communications & Events Team, UMD Library, 416 Library Dr.,
Duluth, MN 55812. For information, call (218) 726-8102.
A free, community reception honoring all nominated authors will be held
starting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at the UMD Library.
GEOGRAPHY ALUMNA NEWS
Amy Trauger, B.A. 1998, from the UMD Department of Geography, and A.B.D.
from Penn State University, Department of Geography (the first-ranked
Ph.D. program in the U.S.) was featured along with other graduate students
and faculty from Penn State in a story on National Public Radio on October
30, 2004. The story concerned collaborative, interdisciplinary research
on women farmers and sustainable agriculture in the U.S. The story is
available for online listening at NPRs website.
SUMMER HOUSING
The Summer Housing Office at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD)
has begun accepting summer apartment requests. This year marks UMDs
29th year of offering on-campus apartments for retirees. UMD offers five,
eight, or ten- week rental periods. To learn more, contact UMD Summer
