All UMD departments need to update their department listings in the UMD Campus Directory. Department heads should make sure that there is at least one person responsible in their area. If departments need additional people to be authorized, contact Cheryl Reitan at 726-8996, creitan@d.umn.edu or Andy Manteuffel at 726-6927, amanteuf@d.umn.edu.
The information online will be used to update both the print version and the online UMD campus directory. You may begin to update at any time and all updates must be completed by August 15, 2005.
Most (not all) UMD departments also need to update their department listings in the Twin Cities Campus Directory. Their deadline and instructions may change slightly but at this time, their deadline is 4:30 p.m., on August 16. See the web site for instructions: http://www.d.umn.edu/unirel/campusdirectory.html.
If you need assistance, please don’t call the Help Desk. Contact Cheryl Reitan at 726-8996, creitan@d.umn.edu or Andy Manteuffel at 726-6927, amanteuf@d.umn.edu.

UMD Human Resources’ Wellness campaign is sponsoring the SFA Farmers Market this summer with fresh fruits, vegetables, cut flowers, and indoor/outdoor plants. The Farmers Market will open from 2 - 4:30 p.m. each Wednesday outside of Kirby Plaza until September 28. Just about the time classes start is peak harvest time for tomatoes, peppers, mellons, and squash by the end of the month. Herbalists will be back with hand creams and lip balms. Fruit and produce will come to market as it is ready. All produce is locally and sustainably grown and many of the growers are also growing organically. To be added to a weekly email reminder list, email: shub@shubatsfruits.com. The reminder email will list growers and what they have for sale.

This year, for the first time, UMD will have its own presence at the Minnesota State Fair. UMD will have a booth in the Crossroads Building (the U of M building) on Dan Patch Avenue, for five days from Saturday, August 27 to Wednesday, August 31.
The UMD Admissions Counselors will staff the booth from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. all five days and alumni and UMD departments are invited to staff the booth from 4 - 8 p.m. UMD will offer a free t-shirt to anyone who signs up to staff the booth for a 2 or 3 hour shift! This is an opportunity to meet with prospective students, parents, family members, and alumni. UMD will have an internet connection and computer display area, if departments wish to bring a laptop toshow off their websites. In addition, on August 31, UMD has the stage for “UMD at the State Fair Day” and an alumni reception is planned that evening in the Raptor Center. Interested? Contact Cheryl Reitan, 726-8996, creitan@d.umn.edu, to sign up for a time slot. See the schedule at http://www.d.umn.edu/unirel/statefair.html.

If you have any general interest magazines you’re done with, donate them! Your old reading material could entertain countless exercisers! Drop them off at the weight room or bring to SpHC 121.

Hypothermia research that leads to new products for a flotation device manufacturer, discovering the diving reflex, which changes the way people submerged in cold water are revived, and new environmentally friendly control measures for use against invasive fish such as the Eurasian ruffe and sea lamprey are only a few of many ways that Minnesota Sea Grant has added to knowledge about Lake Superior and Minnesota’s inland waters. For over 30 years, Sea Grant has focused on the exploration of the largest freshwater lake in the world and the life that inhabits it. They have made a significant contribution to preserving the Great Lakes through research, education, and outreach.
