RESPONSIBLE CONDUCT IN RESEARCH
All individuals receiving sponsored grants or contracts, including Graduate
School Grants-In-Aid, must complete two separate workshops in the responsible
conduct of research. These workshops can be completed in either order
and both will be available this fall at UMD delivered through interactive
television. Workshops have been tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, November
16 and 30.
Attendees must make reservations, as space is limited.

MATH STUDENT RECEIVES AWARD
Stephanie Schenck, a UMD junior mathematics major, has been selected as
winner of an Ernest F. Holling Undergraduate Scholarship. This National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) scholarship program is designed
to increase undergraduate training in oceanic and atmospheric science
and increase public understanding and support for stewardship of the ocean
and atmosphere. The scholarship provides up to $8,000 of academic assistance
each year for the junior and senior years and a 10-week, paid internship
during the summer between the junior and senior years at an NOAA facility.
STUDENT WEB CONTEST 2006
Up to five $500 awards will be given to undergraduate and graduate students
to develop a Web site for an undergraduate course and/or Web based materials
for an undergraduate course. The deadline for submission is Friday, January
27, 2006. Each student must have an identified faculty or departmental

If something needs to be changed, added or deleted, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Go to the UMD Home Page: http://www.d.umn.edu/faculty/.
Step 2: Select Faculty and Staff from the left column: http://www.d.umn.edu/faculty/.
Step 3: Select Updating Your Information from the bottom of
the page.
Step 4: Enter your ID number (X.500 username) and password on the pop-up
page.
Step 5: Use the pulldown menu to choose general information, personal
addresses, office addresses, telephone numbers, emergency contacts and
directory suppression.
Review all areas and make necessary changes.
Note: Individuals are not permitted to change every piece of information.

UMD STORES INFO
Bridge the Gap for Positive Change containers are located
at all three UMD Stores locations. All money deposited in the change containers
goes directly to Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief.
Jefferson Lines is offering daily bus service, year round, from the UMD
Campus to the Twin Cities. Purchase tickets at UMD Stores street level.
For a limited time, students can buy one ticket and get one ticket free.
UMD Stores and Northern Business Products will host a Chair Show on October
13 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in UMD Kirby Ballroom A. View their product
line and experience the ergonomic benefits of a variety of chairs. Receive
a 10% discount on chairs ordered by December 13.
Turn in Spring 2006 Textbook Requisitions online, via email, or by filling
out a textbook requisition form by Saturday, October 15. If packages ordered
for Fall Semester will be used again in the Spring, notify the bookstore
as to which parts are necessary for the course. Also, order books for

The UPS Mail Center is open in UMD Stores, Etc., Monday through Friday
from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Customers can buy stamps and mailing supplies, and
have their packages shipped.

at UMD Stores street level the weekend of that game. Wear UMD wear and
get 20% off UMD wear every Friday in October at UMD Stores street level.
CAMPUS EVENTS is a new area within UMD Stores lower level designed to
help UMD departments, faculty, and staff highlight their lectures, guest
speakers, special classes, and events. UMD Stores will carry books, CDs,
and event materials to help departments promote their special activity

WHAT IS RUCKUS?
New this fall, the University of Minnesota and UMD have arranged for students
to use Ruckus, a digital entertainment service for universities. Ruckus
provides both music and video content. Students can watch hundreds of
movies and TV shows or listen to music from the library of 1.2 million
licensed tracks of music. Community features allow students with similar
music, video and programming interests to connect, share and explore on
their campus.
