TWEED MUSEUM

Draw to Live and Live to Draw: Prints and Illustrations by Wanda Gag is on display thru May 17.

“Drawings by Frank Big Bear are on display thru March 22.

“Apart at the Seams: Drawings and Paintings by Allen D. (Big Al) Carter” is on display thru Dec. 14.

“Bright Life: Works on Paper by Karel Appel” will be on display thru May 24.

“Framing the Collection: Select Works” will be on display thru May 24.

“Work Through the Lens: Photographs from the Permanent Collection” is on display thru May 24.

Selections from “The Richard E. and Dorothy Rawlings Nelson Collection of American Indian Art” will be on display thru Sept. 13, 2009.

The Visual Lecture Series presents photographer and pharmacologist Vance Gellert at 6 pm on March 10, and painter Jerome Witkin at 6 pm on March 24. All events are held in the Tweed.

Senior Student Shows will be featured throughout the year including: Christina Hoeker thruDec. 14. The opening receptions will be held on Tues. at 4 pm.

A Faculty Artist Recital featuring Thomas Wegren, piano will be held at 7:30 pm on

Rhythm and Brass will perform as part of UMD's Ovation Guest Artist Series at 7:30 pm on Thur., Feb. 5.

MEN'S HOCKEY
The UMD Men’s Hockey team will play Michigan Tech at 7:07 pm on Dec. 12 and 13, Bemidji State at 7:07 pm on Jan. 16 and 17, MSU-Mankato at 7:07 pm on Jan 23 and 24, Denver at 7:07 pm on Feb. 6 and 7, and Alaska Anchorage at 7:07 pm on Mar. 6 and 7. All games will be played at the DECC.

WOMEN'S HOCKEY
The UMD Women’s Hockey team will play Princeton at 3:07 pm on Dec 13 and 14, Wisconsin at 7:07 pm on Jan. 9 and 10, Team USA at 7:07 pm on Jan 20, St. Cloud State at 7:07 pm on Jan 30 and 31, and Ohio State at 7:07 pm on Feb 13 and 14. All games will be played at the DECC.

PLANETARIUM
The Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium holds free public shows at the planetarium every Wed. evening at 7 pm. Shows include: Arrowhead Astronomical Society on Dec. 10, The Star of Bethlehem , a special Sat. night show on Dec. 13, and the Zodiac: what’s your sign? on Dec. 17. The UMD Fine Arts Academy is now accepting applications for spring semester Kindermusik classes, beginning the week of Jan. 19. SERVICE TRIP
Volunteers from UMD and Duluth will help re-build homes in Gulfport, Miss. from March 14-21. Volunteer leaders are coordinating the effort through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA, http://www.pcusa.org/pda/); the trip is open to people of all faiths, and ways of understanding. Volunteers must be 18 years of age, be in good physical condition, and have an open and flexible attitude. The registration fee is $375 per person. Payment is due by Feb. 6, 2009.

RSOP BREAK TRIPS
The Recreational Sports Outdoor Program is offering three trips to UMD faculty and students. The winter break trip is an Everglades sea kayaking adventure, held from Jan. 11-16. The spring break trips, held March 14-22, are Backpacking the Appalachian Trail and Surfing in Southern California. For more info visit www.umdrsop.org.


GLENSHEEN
Holiday Tea for Dolly and Me is an event where children bring their special doll to Glensheen. This production includes a holiday program and a tea and is held at 2 pm on Sat., Dec. 13.

Glensheen’s Holiday Brunches and Tours will be held on Saturdays., and Sun., Dec.13, 14, 20, and 21. The tour begins at 10 am with brunch following.

Living Literature: Truman Capote’s “A Christmas Memory” will be held at 7 pm on Dec. 18, 19, and 20.

The first tour at Glensheen begins daily at 9:30 am, and last tour begins at 4 pm. Glensheen is open during weekends, Sat. and Sun. from 10 am - 3 pm.
