COMMISSION ON WOMEN
GRANTS
The UMD Commission on Women is currently accepting grant applications
for the 2009-20010 academic year.
Small grant applications for $300 or less, will be accepted throughout
academic year. The deadline for major grants, $301-$1000, for Fall semester
2009 programs is April 17.
Grants may be awarded to individuals or organizations seeking assistance
in providing programs or activities which directly benefit a broad group
of women in the UMD community.

STUDENT NOMINATIONS
Nominations are now being accepted for UMD Student Awards. Recognizing
outstanding leadership in students on campus, including the prestigious
Sieur Du Luth Award. Awards also recognize outstanding staff, faculty,
and advisors and their work with students. Student Awards nominations
can come from any faculty, staff, or student at UMD. Winners and nominees
are celebrated at a reception and brief ceremony on April 19 in the Kirby
Ballroom.

ADVERTISING AWARDS FOR UMD
Nine UMD design projects received 12 awards at
the American Advertising Federation Duluth/Superior ADDY® Award event
on Feb. 21.
A promotional brochure done for Department of Art
and Design designed by Mariana M. Waisman, assistant professor, received
a Gold ADDY® Award. Steve Bardolph provided photography.
Student Mike Malone, with assistance from Jim Storck,
received a Silver ADDY® for the 2008 AAF Vance and Betty Lee Stickell
Brochure.
The Searchpiece and Viewbook, UMD Office of Admissions
materials, created by WestmorelandFlint, received a Gold ADDY® Awards.

Office of Civic Engagement Own Your Vote Campaign

KUMD NEWS
The Basement, a college radio program produced by UMD students, runs every
night of the week beginning at 9 pm.
Soul Village, airing Fridays at 5 pm, highlights a mix of old-fashioned
soul music. Caribbean Roots and Putumayo World Music Hour airs Sunday
mornings starting at 10 am. The Local, airing on Wednesdays at 5 pm, is
hosted by Starfire and showcases new and old local and regional talent
and a weekly calendar of community music events.
Jenny Lemmon and Rob the Blob host the Best of the Basement featuring
the newest music in the KUMD library on Tuesdays at 5 pm.
Upcoming live in-studio sessions feature singer/songwriter Danny Schmidt
at 1 pm on Feb. 25. New England folk singer Bill Staines will be in the
KUMD studio at 1 pm on Feb. 26. Schmidt and Staines each play at Amazing
Grace Bakery in the evening after their KUMD guest appearances.
KUMD 103.3fm is a member supported community radio station broadcasting
from UMD. Their pledge drive begins April 19. For info on the schedule,
