"New Acquisitions" will continue through July 11.

The exhibition, "A Flow of Ideas: Selections from the Permanent Collection," includes 70 artworks. They demonstrate how related works of art, when viewed together, may best reveal common themes. It will be on display through July 11.

"New Installation of Works from the Richard & Dorothy Rawlings Nelson Collection of American Indian Art" will continue through Aug. 16.

The collection feature, "Blue Dot: The Real Good Chair," which illustrates contemporary industrial design will be on display through Sept. 5.

"Brave, Strong, True: Selections from the Potlatch Collection of Royal Canadian Mounted Police Illustrations," includes paintings and illustrations of Mounties set against breathtakingly beautiful backdrops of western Canadian scenery. The exhibition will be on display through Sept. 12.

The exhibition, "You and Yours: A Curatorial Project on the Theme of Family by Patricia Briggs" will be on display through Oct. 17.

"Form and Surface: Selections from the Glenn C. Nelson Collection" will be on display through Nov. 7.

"Entertaining the Gods: Yarn Paintings of the Mexican Huichol" will be on display starting June 22 through Dec. 20.

The Sieur Du Luth Summer Arts Festival will present a full production of Mozart’s opera, Don Giovanni. The story centers on the exploits of Don Juan, the great seducer. All the drama and spectacle will be told in the film noir style, with a touch of humor. Performances are July 14-17 at 7:30 pm in the Marshall Performing Arts Center on the UMD campus. Jazz at the Weber will be presented on July 22 at 7:30 pm. The Sieur Du Luth Summer Arts Festival will also present a song recital on July 23 at 7:30 pm; opera scenes and arias from favorite operas on July 29 at 7:30 pm; and an opera gala featuring arias with orchestral accompaniment on August 1 at 2:00 pm. The Sieur Du Luth Opera Training Program is offering classes in the Alexander Technique. Instructor Brian McCullough, from the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities, will offer private lessons at UMD Friday July 2-July 30. The Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium holds free public shows at the planetarium every Wednesday and Friday evening at 7 pm. They will present "Creation of the Universe: "The Big Bang" on June 11 and 16. This show will examine what happened during the universe's first 370,000 years.

This summer, the planetarium will also host a camp for students entering grades 10-12. The camp is a crash course into everything that has to do with astronomy. Campers will build their own telescopes and spectrometers. The campers will also present their own planetarium show. The youth Outdoor Adventure Camp offered by UMD Recreational Sports Outdoor Program has a few spaces open for youth who have completed 6th-8th grade or ages 13-15. The day camp takes place Monday-Friday, June 21-25 from 9 am-4pm.

UMD's Market Day in the Plaza will be held every Wednesday through Sept. 29. Market Day consists of a farmers market, arts and crafts, live entertainment and more. The market runs from 1:30-4:30 p.m. or until sellout and is located in 1120 Kirby Drive, in front of UMD Stores. For more information visit http://www.d.umn.edu/umdhr/wellness/farmersmarket/. The event is sponsored by UMD Employee Wellness Program, Department of Human Resources, UMD Stores, Auxiliary Services, Office of Civic Engagement, and Sustainable Farming Association.


On Saturday, June 19 from 8:30 am-2 pm, the UMD Alumni Association invites everyone to the UMD Hospitality Tent located in the Canal Park Lodge parking lot. There will be free coffee, a cash bar that starts at 8:30 am and a BBQ lunch catered by Bellisios beginning at 10 am. The BBQ includes burgers, baked beans, coleslaw, cookies, and soft drinks. Veggie-burgers are also available upon request. The lunch is $10 per person for non-runners and is free to UMD runners when they present their bib. Music and entertainment will be provided by KUMD 103.3 FM. The UMD Alumni Association is participating in the United Way Day of Caring Park Clean-up from 9 am-2 pm on Wednesday, June 23. They need helpers. To volunteer, contact the UMD Alumni office at 218-726-7164. The work assignments will include planting, weeding, mulching, raking, scraping, and painting. Bring shovels, rakes, pails, work gloves, and any other favorite gardening tools. Garden plants and perennials (full sun tolerant) are very much appreciated.


UMD faculty, staff, and students are invited to sign up for the UMD Booth in the Crossroads Building on Dan Patch Avenue at the Minnesota State Fair on Aug. 27 and Aug. 28. The booth is open from 9 am-9 pm. There are still some openings for evening hours (3-6 pm and 6-9 pm).

Concerts by the Lake will be provided every Wednesday night at 7:30 pm in July.

On Saturday, July 31 UMD's Chancellor Kathryn A. Martin will host the Tall Ships Gala from 7-10:30 pm. Cocktails and hors d' oeuvres will be served, followed by a plated dinner and entertainment.

On August 2-3, 9-12, and 16-17, at 8 pm Gaetano Donizetti's opera L’Elisir D’ Amore – The Elixir of Love will be performed in the formal garden.

The Festival of Fine Art and Craft will be hosted on Glensheen grounds on Aug. 14 and 15 from 9 am-5 pm.

The Glensheen 2010 Croquet Tournament will take place on Saturday, Aug. 28 from 9 am to 4 pm.

The historic Congdon estate, Glensheen mansion, is open for tours Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am-3:30 pm.
