GEOLOGY NEWS
The Precambrian Research Center conducted its fourth Precambrian geology field camp this summer from July 4-Aug. 14. The camp was attended by 22 students from 17 different school throughout the US. Two of the students are current UMD undergraduate students and two are incoming MS graduate students.

DONATE BLOOD
Memorial Blood Center will be on campus outside the Kirby Student Center on Thurs., Oct. 7. Stop by the Kirby Information Desk to sign up. Time slots are available from 8-11:30 am. For more info, contact the Kirby Information Desk at 726-7163.

FLU SHOTS
Seasonal and H1N1 flu shots will be available on campus in the KSC Lounge on Tues., Oct. 19 & Wed. Oct. 27 from 10 am-3 pm. Sponsored by UMD Health Services and the College of Pharmacy. Staff and Faculty with UPlan Insurance are covered with presentation of their insurance card and ID. All others will pay $20, cash or check only. For info, contact health@d.umn.edu.

DEPARTMENT DECORATING
The 2010 Homecoming Department Decorating Contest is open to all UMD departments. The theme this year is “Maroon the Marauders." Departments must sign up by Mon. Oct. 11 at noon and judging begins on Wed. Oct. 13 from noon-2 pm. First place wins a pizza lunch with beverages and a trophy. For info, visit http://www.d.umn.edu/homecoming.

ACCESSIBLE TRANSPORTATION
Accessible transportation assistance is available on the UMD Campus. Departments are encouraged to arrange transportation for individuals with mobility limitations at the same time they arrange their other University-sponsored travel transportation needs.

Possible sources for this transportation include Courtesy Cab (218-590-9222) or Northern Access (218-728-5464). Requests for reimbursement of costs should be submitted to the UMD Business Office, 209 DAdB. Questions regarding transportation arrangements, reimbursement requirements, and this procedure should be directed to Greg Sather, UMD Business Office, at 726-6137 or email gsather@d.umn.edu.

KUMD NEWS
On Oct. 11, KUMD will start airing "Democracy Now," a national news show. Tune in to KUMD at 103.3 FM or online at http://www.kumd.org Mon.-Fri. at 9 am to enjoy national, independent, award-winning news program hosted by journalists Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez. UMD Stores Balloon Sale will be on Wed., Oct. 13 from 7:30 am-8 pm in UMD Stores street level. Pop a balloon and receive 25%-80% off UMD wear and UMD imprinted gift items.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and UMD Stores will donate 50% of the selling price of each pink ribbon UMD cap, $4 from the sale of each pink ribbon Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs tee, and $20 from the sale of each pink UMD hockey jersey to St. Luke's Regional Breast Center.

The first 500 people at the UMD Homecoming game on Oct. 16 will receive a free UMD Bulldogs mini-football. Wear UMD wear and get 20% off UMD wear on Fan Fridays throughout Oct. Save your UMD football, soccer, and volleyball game tickets and get 20% off UMD wear and gifts the Sat. and Sun. after the game attended. Get 5% off UMD wear and gifts for every UMD touchdown during home games up to 30% off on Touchdown Tuesdays. Discount is good the Tues. after the game attended.

A Brighter UMD Energy Event will continue through Oct. 29 in UMD Stores Express. CFL light bulbs, desk lamps, table lamps, floor lamps, and more are specially priced through Minnesota Power to save energy and money. Minnesota Power will make a donation to the U-Pass Program for every product purchased through Oct. 31.

Shoppers can support local charities through the UMD Stores “Wooden Nickel Program” when they don’t take a plastic bag. Reusable bags and back packs are available for purchase at UMD Stores and plastic bag recycling containers are located at each entrance.
