Employees at UMD Make a Difference!

We all know that our students are paying much higher tuition to attend UMD than ever before. In 1968 an average student would have needed to work 6.2 hours a week at a minimum wage job to pay for their UMD tuition. This year a student would need to work more than 38 hours, per week, to pay for tuition. More than 70% of UMD students need to take out loans to pay for college tuition and the average undergraduate student graduates with over $23,000 in student loans. Our support of scholarships for our students does make a difference!

That is why we have created a new scholarship funded entirely by gifts from current and former UMD employees. The Employee Sponsored Scholarship is our way to demonstrate to UMD students that we understand the importance of scholarships to help off-set their increasing tuition costs. Please see the enclosed brochure for more information on this new scholarship program.

Each academic year UMD employees are asked to make a tax-deductible gift in support of the university, and many respond generously. In fact, gifts and pledges made to the university by current and former faculty and staff last year totaled more than $335,000.

Your Gift, Your Choice
You can choose how you designate your gift. You can give to the new Employee Sponsored Scholarship or any other scholarship fund or a specific college, department, or program that is of interest to you.
You can choose how you would like to give. Gifts can be made by check, credit card, or payroll deduction. You choose what your gift supports and all gifts are tax deductible.

Payroll Deduction
By signing up for payroll deduction you can give a little each pay period and have it add up to a significant amount by the end of the year.
