Faculty & Staff Campaign

Our campaign motto at UMD for 2008-09 is "Pay it Forward". The entire campus community works together daily to move this great institution forward through teaching, research and outreach activities. Thank you for the work you do, making a difference in our community of learners lives, and making UMD the fine university it has become. We now ask you to further this forward movement by participating in this year's Faculty and Staff Campaign.

Unrestricted gifts continue to provide UMD the most flexibility to apply the funds, but you are welcome to designate your gift to any fund you choose. For your convenience you may review the list of funds and complete either the Payroll Deduction Contribution Form or the Electronic Transfer Form. If the department or program you wish to support is not listed, contact the UMD Development Office at ext 7771.

Please give this request your most serious consideration. By continuing our tradition of joining together to move UMD forward, we will send a strong message. Make your gift by check, credit card, or appreciated securities. You may wish to handle it through payroll deduction. Small amounts each pay period add up in a hurry!

Thank You,

UMD Faculty and Staff Campaign Committee

Your gifts help students!

We, as development directors at UMD, are paid to raise money for scholarships, programs and facilities. Generally, we spend a lot of time with our donors and friends away from campus. We all know how gratifying it is to succeed in coupling the passion of donors with the vision of the faculty and students. But many of you, beyond giving the university the best hours of your day, add substantial monetary gifts as well. This letter, then, is about donors within the university.

Robert O. Sand, ITSS, is helping undergraduates and graduates in English with travel expenses to various conferences for the presentation of papers. Robert Sand’s commitment also includes ongoing gifts over time. His are gifts in response to need.

Sharon Torrison, former Director of Student Affairs in LSBE, has created a Reaching Higher Matching Scholarship in memory of her parents, Lillian and William Johnson. Sharon’s gift is a gift of memorial.

Dr. Jeanne Doty, Head of the Music Department, has launched a UMD piano music scholarship. Jeanne is working with the SFA development director to encourage former students and faculty/staff to join her in the campaign. This effort is a gift of ensemble.

UMD Professor Denny Falk, CEHSP, donates to a variety of UMD funds. Using payroll deduction, Denny’s gifts add up to make a difference in his college and beyond. His contributions are gifts of commitment.

An anonymous donor sent a gift in honor of Frank Simmons of ITSS. The person described Frank and his student staff as “knowledgeable and courteous.” This is a gift of gratitude.

Our work is made easy because of the generosity of so many of you at UMD. May we count on you this year for a contribution to the UMD Faculty Staff Campaign? Thank you for supporting the very institution you help make better, every day.
