In 2011, UMD adopted a new Strategic Plan which includes the core value of inclusiveness – "to respect and embrace the diversity of individuals, perspectives, and ideas and strive for social justice." Not only are we thinking about creating a more inclusive campus, we are doing it. The University of Minnesota system presented UMD with the 2011 Equity and Diversity Outstanding Unit Award, recognizing UMD's commitment to and accomplishments toward integrating equity and diversity into the campus culture.
