Note Taking Accommodations

Disability Resources offers two different options for note taking accommodations.

Peer Note Taking

A peer note taker is a volunteer student that is willing to share a copy of their notes from the classes lecture or lab.

Follow these steps to request a peer note taker:

  • Submit a Note Taking Request form to your disability specialist.
  • Complete the Note-taker training module.
  • Ask your instructor to read a copy of the note taker announcement in class.

Students must attend classes in order to get notes, except in rare situations when an absence has been previously approved by your Disability Specialist.

Smart Pens

A smart pen is a device that records the lecture and synchronizes that recording with the notes the student takes.

This provides a specific way to review notes that also provides the student with exact recall of the information given by the instructor.

We have a limited number of Smart Pens available for student use. Smart Pen users will receive training, supplies, and support for notifying their instructors about recording lectures.

Talk with us today if you’re interested in using a Smart Pen.
