Dr. Bai joined the faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the University of Minnesota Duluth in August 2007. She received her Ph.D. degree and M. Sc degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology in 2007 and 2003, respectively. She also earned the M. Eng. degree in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 1999 and the B. Eng. degree in Tsinghua University, P. R. China, in 1996 both in Mechanical Engineering. Dr Bai’s research interests include optoelectronics, semiconductor nanostructures, quantum optics, nonlinear optics, and micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS). She is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Optical Society of America (OSA), and the American Physics Society (APS).

Dr. Burns joined ECE as its new department head during the summer of 1998. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Burns' research interests include microelectronics, semiconductor device processing, and high freqency analog circuit design. He is a senior member of the IEEE, and a member of ASEE and ECS. Dr. Burns is a registered Professional Engineer.

He received the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Ph.D. in Computer Science degrees from California Institute of Technology, under the supervision of Dr. Carver Mead. He served as Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at Duke University from 1981 until 1988. His research interests include special purpose digital systems, VLSI design, and microprocessor/microcontroller applications, especially as they relate to educational environments.

Mr. Ferguson holds Bachelor's and Master of Science degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota, with concentrations in power systems and electromagnetics. His interests include all aspects of energy conservation and distribution, including policy and environmental issues, and he remains a student of communications systems and antenna design.

Dr. Hasan began with the ECE Department in September 1997. He received a B.S. degree in Mathematics from the University of Bagdad, Iraq (1979) and an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, from Colorado State University (1992). Dr. Hasan has a Ph.D in Applied Mathematics from Colorado State University (1991), and a Ph.D in Electrical Engineering , from Colorado State University (1997). His research interests include modeling and estimation of random processes and their applications to signal processing'and biomedical reserch, adaptive filtering and sinusoidal estimation.

He teaches computer networks, artificial neural networks, and multiprocessor base system design. He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees both in electrical engineering from Florida Institute of Technology in 1985 and 1988, respectively. His research interests include intelligent algorithms (neural networks, fuzzy systems, genetic algorithms, etc.), adaptive system modeling from examples, prediction, estimation, pattern classification, combinatorial optimization problems, digital signal processing, next generation R/WIS, visibility, very large database (VLDV), data warehousing, data mining, and computer networks. He serves as an Associate Editor of International Journal on Intelligent Automation and Soft Computing. Dr. Kwon is a member of the International Neural Network Society and the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society.

Dr. Imran Hayee joined ECE department as an associate professor in Fall 2004. His area of expertise is communication systems in general and optical fiber communication in particular. He completed his Ph. D. from Communications Sciences Institute of University of Southern California, Los Angeles in Dec 1998. After completing his Ph. D., he worked in Research and Development Organizations for almost 6 years. Here at UMD, he would like to continue his research work on optical fiber communications systems and signal processing trechniques. Dr. Hayee holds 8 US patents and has published more than 30 papers in distinguished journals and conferences. He is member of both Optical Society of America and Lasers and Electro-Optic Society. He is senior member of IEEE.

Scott received his BSEE from North Dakota State University in 1986. He has 12 years of engineering experience in the electric utility industry. His interests include dynamic stability of power systems, voltage collapse, and power electronics. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Minnesota.

He received his M.Sc. degree in Control and Computer Engineering from the LETI, Soviet Union and both his Ph.D. and D.Sc. from A G-H, Poland. He heads the Laboratory for Intelligent Systems. He is also graduate professor for Computer Science Department University of Minnesota Duluth campus (www.d.umn.edu/cs/) and Dynamical Systems, University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus.
Dr. Stachowicz received two awards from the Polish Ministry of Higher Education and Science for the introduction of the digital fuzzy sets into the fuzzy set theory that has facilitated applications of the fuzzy set theory to computer engineering. His work centers on artificial intelligence and soft computing, decision analysis and control. Recently, he had worked for Berkeley Initiative in Soft Computing, University of California, Berkeley.
Dr. Stachowicz is co-author of the Fuzzy Logic Package for Mathematica. He is a member of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society, a member of the International Fuzzy Systems Associations, Senior Member of IEEE and a consultant for large multinational corporations.

Dr. Weber received a B.S. degree in the field of Computer Engineering in 2003 and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in the field of Electrical Engineering in 2005 and 2006, respectively, from Michigan Technological University (Houghton, MI). His primary research interests are Fault Tolerance and Safety-Critical Real-Time Systems including x-by-wire technologies. In addition, he has worked in the area of computer networks, most recently in the context of Peer-to-Peer applications using epidemic-style protocols. Microcontroller-based projects and the study and implementation of programmable FPGAs are also of interest.

Dr. Yang received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park, in 1983 and 1988, respectively, and has been with the ECE Department at UMD since September 1988. He has published over 100 technical journal and conference articles and book chapters, and has also been invited to serve on many conference organizing/program committees and conference sessions chairs. Dr. Yang's research interests include robust control, system theory, computer-aided control system design, robotics, optimization, and control applications. He is a senior member of the IEEE, and a member of the Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society.

Dr. Debao Zhou joined the faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UMD in January, 2008. Prior to this, he was with Georgia Tech Research Institute of Technology as a postdoctoral fellow. He received his Ph.D. Degree in Mechanical and Production Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He earned his M. Eng. Degree and B. Eng. Degree from Tsinghua University , P. R. China, both in Mechanical Engineering.  His research interests include robotics, bio-system modeling, system dynamics and control. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the International Association of Science and Technology for Development (IASTED).
