The UMD Department of Education is seeking applicants for a pool of temporary Instructor and Assistant Professor positions available to teach during fall semester 2014 beginning August 25, 2014; spring semester 2015 beginning January 8, 2015; and/or May/summer session 2015 beginning May 11, 2015. Note: being a member of the pool does not ensure a contract will be offered; course offerings, and therefore teaching appointments, vary with demand and available funding.
Required academic qualification to be eligible for the Instructor position is a Master’s degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in education or field related to specific teaching assignment. Required academic qualification to be eligible for the Assistant Professor position is a Doctorate, from a regionally accredited institution, in education or field related to specific teaching assignment.
Required experience for Instructor and Assistant Professor positions include: two years teaching experience in a P-12 school and/or at university level; experience and commitment to working with students from diverse population groups; evidence of ability to integrate diversity issues into the curriculum; and demonstrated excellence in written communication skills.
Preferred experience for Instructor and Assistant Professor positions include: three or more years teaching experience in a P-12 school and/or two or more years teaching experience at the university level; experience and/or commitment to teaching with technology and evidence of ability to integrate technology into the curriculum; and strong oral and interpersonal communication skills.
Responsibilities may include teaching courses in one or more of the following areas: elementary education, early childhood education, secondary education, special education, American Sign Language, Academic English Language program, art education, human diversity, technology; advising education students; supervising student teacher candidates; serving on committees; and other duties as assigned.
