Technology Infused Project

Claymation Movies

These clay animations were made by second graders who were studying folk tales. They made clay characters and background sets. Characters were moved and photographed with a digital camera. We used iMovie to join the still images into movies.

Students learned that making smaller motions and taking more photos resulted in smoother (less jerky) motion.

These are Quicktime movies, which require either a Quicktime plug-in in your browser or the free Quicktime player from Apple.

Tools

  • Clay figures and "movie sets"
  • Digital camera
  • Tripod
  • Computer with iMovie

Submitted by: Deb Hannu, Mike Staum, Karly Bostrom and Karen Plass for the Pixels and Paints Collaboratory, Arrowhead "Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology" Project, Dept. of Education, University of Minnesota Duluth.
