Reading Rainbow
The 2006 Regional Reading Rainbow celebration event honored the 4,106 children who wrote and illustrated original stories for the PBS eight 2006 Reading Rainbow "Young Writers and Illustrators Contest." It's featured here because of the involvement of the Department of Education:
- Dan Corbett (who is with both UMD Education and PBS eight), is the project organizer, director and M.C.
- Gary Babiuk and Dan Corbett's Block II ELED candidates judged the 30 finalists for each grade level as an assessment opportunity. They determined the Top Ten for each grade level and the Grand Prize winners.
- Terrie Shannon and the UMD Technology in Education course students turned the ten Grand Prize winning stories into PowerPoint presentations. Terrie projected the students' story illustrations onto a screen while the young writers read their stories to a packed auditorium.
- Jean Stevenson provided a prize.
- Karen Plass created this web page.
