Student Teacher Tech Kit Evaluations

[Click here for Student Teacher Tech Kit Page]

May 2008: Thirteen people have submitted electronic feedback about their experience using the Department of Education's six Student Teacher Technology Kits. The evaluations cover five semesters (Spring 2005 through Fall 2007). Each evaluation was assigned an ID number, starting with the most recent evaluation and ending with the oldest evaluation.

A kit consists of a laptop, projector and camera, but students often check out a single piece of equipment (a laptop or projector), rather than an entire kit. The laptops are from 2002 and 2003, and do not have wireless Internet connectivity.

What were you able to do with the kit
that you otherwise could not have done?
1 Use computer applications when I was not at home.
2 I was able to put a slide show together.
3 Show students images of art history through use of PowerPoint presentations
4 It saves a lot of time by having my presentation prepared. I can reuse the presentation and it's easy for the students to see what I'm talking about.
5 Worked on lesson plans and finding information during my prep hours when I normally would not of had a computer to work on.
6 I used the projector to show great pictures of Planets, Galaxies and other objects, also video clips of lunar and solar eclipses. I used the kit to put together and present a slideshow on plate tectonics in Alaska.
7 Project power point displays larger than before
8 I was able to download video clips off the internet and play them for the students, which I otherwise would not be able to do. Also my room did not have maps so I was able to project maps on the wall. While watching films in class I was able to project the questions for the film on the screen. I used the overhead for everything (daily bellringers, class notes, showing pictures, maps).
9 I was able to have computer access at my school (a huge, huge help being that our attendance and gradebook are online!) was well as make and use several powerpoint presentations
10 The laptop made it easier for me to plan and prepare my lessons. I didn't use it during my lessons for powerpoints but it was to use it for planning and also for finishing my portfollio
11 I used it mostly for preparing lesson plans and researching lesson topics.
12 have a colorful visual aid, i was able to show pictures, i was able to introduce lesson more effectively.
13 The projector allowed me to take advantage of my DVD player on my computer. The nice thing about DVDs is that you can go directly to the scene you need without wasting class time by searching for the right spot. I was also able to show PowerPoints and movies from the internet that I found that were relative to what was being taught in class.
