clearTXT Emergency Text Alerts

October 2007: The University of Minnesota Duluth has established a new service to send text messages to cellular telephones in case of an emergency or weather-related campus closing.

How does the service work?

This service will be used sparingly for emergencies and weather-related closings. There will be no spam, advertisements, or general announcements sent via this system.

There will be a monthly test of the system sent on the first Wednesday of each month at 1 PM, at the same time as the regular emergency siren tests.

In addition to each text message sent, an email message with the same content will be sent to your UMD email account.

Who is eligible?

The service is open to all UMD students, faculty, and staff.

How do I sign up?

This new service is optional and requires your action to sign up. Please go to the following web site and provide the information requested in order to receive emergency text messages:
--> UMD Emergency Notices

You will receive an email notification from clearTXT that will include your temporary account password.

What is the cost?

There will be no charge from UMD for use of this system. However, your regular cellular phone vendor charges for text messages will apply.
