Eligibility Reguirements for Internships
Eligibility requirements for four internship programs are listed below. If you will meet the requirements within the next year, you should contact the internship coordinator at pwjengl@d.umn.edu to indicate your interest in planning for an internship.
To be eligible for an internship in Information Design, you must have
- completed 60 hours of course work
- completed Composition 1120 (College Writing) or equivalent
- completed (or be in the process of completing) at least one 3000-level advanced writing Composition class
- earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the two writing classes
- completed (or be in the process of completing) appropriate courses as specified by the program head
- be recommended for an internship by the program head and internship coordinator
To be eligible for an internship in Journalism, you must have
- completed 60 hours of course work
- completed Journalism 2001 (Reporting and Writing I)
- completed Journalism 3700 (Media Law and Ethics)
To be eligible for an internship in Professional Writing, you must have
- completed 60 hours of course work
- completed Composition 1120 (College Writing) or equivalent
- completed (or be in the process of completing) at least one 3000-level advanced writing Composition class
- earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the two writing classes
To be eligible for an internship in Publishing, you must
- be an English graduate student with an emphasis in Publishing and Print Culture Studies, OR
- be an undergraduate English Major (B.A.) who has completed 60 hours of course work
You may be eligible for an internship if you are a graduate student, or if you have permission from your instructor, even if you have not met the requirements above. However, you must get permission from your instructor and the Internship Coordinator before you seek an internship.
