"We are indeed fortunate to have Dr. Black join UMD as chancellor,” said Vice Chancellor for Academic Administration Vince Magnuson. “He brings outstanding administrative and academic credentials as well as strong leadership ability. He has a commitment to communication and consensus building, and he has received strong support from the Duluth and University communities.”
Dr. Black has a demonstrated record of success leading comprehensive strategic planning efforts by engaging the campus and surrounding communities; establishing strong and trusting relationships with faculty, staff, and students as well as civic and business leaders in the community; leading significant fundraising efforts for both campus and community organizations; and demonstrating a strong personal and professional commitment to the value of diversity.
Chancellor Black says he looks forward to leading a comprehensive strategic planning effort and to crafting a new vision for UMD. He added, “I am impressed with the outstanding faculty, staff, students, and community partners of this exceptional institution. This is an exciting opportunity, and I look forward to this new role.”
