The 2009 Student Activities Fair
Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010 from 11 am – 2 pm, visit the Student Activities Fair outside on the Kirby Terrace, Kirby Student Center (rain location is the Kirby Ballroom and Rafters). The event features approximately 100 of the 200+ student organizations that are here on campus. Enjoy free hotdogs and chips while you learn about the many ways you can get involved.
Lacey Solheid, Student Traditions Manager at the Kirby Student Center, says that the Fair offers “something for everyone.” Members will be on hand from special interest and hobby clubs; professional/departmental/honorary clubs; multicultural groups; religious organizations; political and social action organizations; sports and recreational groups; as well as Greek Life organizations. "Clubs will be happy to answer questions, and some groups will offer free goodies to those who stop by their tables," Solheid says. Also look for videos and demonstrations. Last year, clubs such as Funk Soul Patrol and Muay Thai Club showed off their talents.
Solheid especially encourages freshmen to attend the event and get involved. “Joining a club is a great way for freshmen to meet other students and professors and to make contacts,” Solheid says. She also notes out that studies indicate that students who join a student organization do better academically and are generally more satisfied with their college experience.
