UMD Dance Team wins second place in national competition.

The UMD Dance Team has won second place in the 2011 National Dance Alliance (NDA) Collegiate National Championship for Div. II on April 8, 2011. The competition took place in Daytona Beach, Fla., at the Peabody Auditorium and the Daytona Beach Bandshell.
The 23-member dance squad is coached by college student team captains. They perform at UMD basketball games, football games and hockey games.
Throughout the competition, UMD students performed fast-paced precision dances that were a combination of hip-hop, pom, and jazz routines choreographed by Johnette Rutledge. The team consists of Lindsey Nelson (captain), Chelsea Erickson, Alaina Jenson, Danielle Lanning, Emmie Hunkeapillar, Jillian Kadrlik (captain), Laura Jackson (officer), Brittany Erickson, Jessie Sheehan, Kelsie Jurasin, Colette Moran, Nadine Abu Azzam, Kelsey Villwock, Niki Johnson, Regan Hartley, Michelle Berg, Michelle Marnich, Michelle Mohr, Heather Hubert, Nikki Johnson, Megan Fusselman, Kali Bernloehr, and Meranda Nottingham.
They competed against Winona State University, Mankato State University, Grand Valley State University (Michigan), Bellarmine University of Louisville (Kentucky), University of Nebraska Omaha (Nebraska), Stonehill College (Massachusetts), University of Southern Indiana, and Bentley University (Massachusetts).
The 2011 National Cheerleading Association (NCA) and National Dance Alliance Collegiate Championship is the largest College Cheer and Dance Championship in the world. Almost 5,000 student athletes and 15,000 supporters and spectators convened for the competition of technical skills, choreography, showmanship, synchronization and teamwork.
