UMD's American Indian Learning Resource Center (AILRC) is hosting a public event to recognize the resources that donors have provided to UMD. The "Honoring Our Givers" event acknowledges recent donations by the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Lorraine and Phillip Norrgard, Elizabeth "Betty" Dahl, and Dr. Chantal Norrgard. Donations provided by personal collections include the AILRC Library's Mishoomis Collection, the largest American Indian culturally specific public library in the upper Midwest, and the Kathryn A. Martin Library's Special Collections. During the evening, Fond du Lac Band Chairwoman Karen Diver and independent filmmaker Lorraine Norrgard will each say a few words.

The event will be held at the UMD Tweed Museum of Art on Tuesday, Sept. 29 from 6–8 pm. This event is free.

Among the people honored at the event are Karen Diver for the Fond du Lac Band's donation of the Fond du Lac Ojibwe Heritage Collection of video interviews and Phil and Lorraine Norrgard for their donation of the Ojibwe "Waasaa inaabida" (We Look in All Directions) collection. The donation of Waasa Inaabidaa includes photos, transcripts, and footage of original interviews of 132 Anishinaabe elders from Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Canada.

Moreover, the following contributors will also be honored: Drs. James and Linda Belote, Dr. Rosemary Christensen, Barry and Dane Christensen, Dr. William Demmert Jr., Elizabeth "Betty" Dahl, Bonnie Wallace-Hagland and Ronald Hagland, Carol Newman, Dr. Chantal Norrgard, and Dr. Dorothy Olson .

These additions to the library and archives will benefit scholars, students, and community members interested in local American Indian history and culture. The AILRC Library is accessible to all who have a community library card.
UMD Chancellor Lendley Black, the American Indian Learning Resource Center, and the Kathryn A. Martin Library are sponsoring the event. For more info contact 218-726-6379.
