UMD’s campus will swell with Bulldog pride the first week of October, prompting a runoff of maroon and gold fervor into the streets of downtown Duluth. The catalyst for the enthusiasm? Homecoming 2015. It kicks off on Monday, October 5 and runs through Sunday, October 11, 2015.

New this year-- Duluth’s iconic Enger Tower will be illuminated with the school colors during homecoming week. "Bulldog students, staff, faculty, and alumni are proud to call UMD home, and UMD couldn't be more proud to call Duluth home. To be able to share that pride with the entire city by lighting up Enger Tower in maroon and gold was an opportunity we couldn't pass up," says Jessi Eaton, chair of UMD's Homecoming Committee.

The Homecoming Parade is scheduled for Thursday, October 8 at 6 p.m. The route follows the downtown waterfront between 1st Avenue West and 4th Avenue West on Superior Street and is expected to last about an hour. All are welcome and parade registration is open through next Monday, September 28.

The Grand Marshals for the event are Senator Roger Reinert, and his wife Layla. A proud Bulldog at heart, Reinert says he’s looking forward to representing UMD in the parade. “Bringing campus in to the community is an excellent way to celebrate the great partnership between UMD and Duluth. That connection is at the heart of the land-grant university mission.” Currently completing his second term, Reinert previously served one term in the Minnesota House and as an at large city councilor for five years.

Area bands and dance organizations, UMD athletes, Champ, and community dogs participating in the “Mutt Strut” sponsored by Northland Party are among the 50 entries scheduled to participate in the Homecoming Parade.

Beyond the parade, Volleyball, soccer, hockey, and football athletes will all be suiting up for games during homecoming week. The football game on Saturday, October 10 includes the invitation to tailgate before the 1 p.m. matchup against St. Cloud State.

Other notable events include the “Make a Wish 5K” in Bagley on Sunday, October 4 at 10 a.m. and Cardboard Boat Races at Bagley on Wednesday, October 7 at 4:30 p.m.
