Stephen Baillie graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts in Music in 2001. In 2004, he received a Master of Arts in Religion from Trinity International University. Stephen has completed formal Suzuki training with the Suzuki Association of the Americas through Violin Book 5 and looks forward to further his teacher training each summer. Stephen currently plays the violin with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra and viola with the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra. He also plays fiddle in a bluegrass gospel band in Duluth.


Laurie Bastian

Ms. Bastian is a Duluth native who started playing the violin as a Suzuki student at the age of seven. She has been a violinist in the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra since 1979, and became principal second violin in 1987. She is also principal second violin for the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra, a member of the Highland String Quartet and a member of the St. Scholastica Early Music Orchestra. Laurie has taught viola/violin in LS-STEP since 1986.

Nicole Craycraft received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music in Berea, OH and her Master of Music degree in violin performance from Miami University in Oxford, OH. At Miami University, her assistantship duties included being the concertmaster of the orchestra and first violinist in the Saros String Quartet. While living in Ohio, Mrs. Craycraft was an active performer in various symphonies and small ensembles and was on the faculty of Earlham College as adjunct professor of violin and viola. Since moving to Duluth in 2004, she has been a member of the Duluth/Superior Symphony and has performed with the LSCO, LOON, the Duluth Festival Orchestra, and the Early Music Orchestra at St. Scholastica. In addition to teaching for LS-STEP, Mrs. Craycraft is currently an adjunct professor of violin and viola at St. Scholastica.

Betsy Husby

Ms. Husby received her B.M., M.M., and D.M.A. degrees from State University of New York at Stoney Brook. St studied with Bernard Greenhouse cellist of the Beaux Arts Trio and pupil of Pablo Casals, and became his teaching assistant in 1983. She was principal cellist of the Stoney Brook Orchestra, was voted highest departmental honors by the music faculty and won the 1985 D.M.A. concerto Competition. Ms. Husby was selected to participate in the 1986 Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, U.S.S.R. along with 19 other cellists from the United States. Ms. Husby is currently principal cello of the DSSO.

Mrs. Lemire graduate from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1981 with a B.A.S. degree. She is the solo harpist with the Duluth Superior Orchestra and the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra, and the Festival Orchestra. Being one of the area's most active performing harpist, Mrs. Lemire often plays solo and ensemble performances in Duluth and surrounding areas in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Canada. She is an adjunct faculty at the University of Minnesota Duluth, the University of Wisconsin-Superior, and at the College of St. Scholastica. She studied the harp with nationally known harpist, Kathy Kienzle, and continues Suzuki training and pedagogy with Mary Kay Waddington. Mrs. Lemire has been the director of the Lake Superior Suzuki Talent Education Program since 1993. She also maintains a private teaching studio of traditional and Suzuki students and has been invited to be a guest clinician for summer institutes in Colorado, Utah, and Wisconsin.

Denise Lindquist
Denise Lindquist
Piano Instructor

Ms. Lindquist received her piano performance degree in 1977 from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Her Suzuki pedagogy training began at the American Institute of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She continues to attend Suzuki institutes throughout the United States and Canada. Denise has maintained a private piano studio in her home of Mountain Iron, Minnesota since 1982. She continues to be an active accompanist for students, schools, and church organizations on the Iron Range. Denise has taught piano in the LS-STEP program since 1997.
