UMD Voyageurs

UMD Voyageurs is a troupe of graduate students from the UMD Department of Music. Through theatrical song and dance performances and interactive participation, health and personal safety, information is presented to school children and adolescents. Thematic material for this show has been crafted by professional writers in consultation with doctors, nutritionists, social workers, teachers, and parents.

Shows such as Pirates of the Carrot Bean have catchy tunes combined with audience participation which captivates kids and parents alike. After examining their not so healthy diet of moldy bacon and rusty nails, the Captain and her crew embark on an interactive quest for the illusive Pirate Cookbook. Armed with the calming effects of bananas and foods high in vitamin B, they travel to the Leafy Green Lagoon, through the Berry Straights and on to the Carrot Islands. At each colorful stop, captain and crew learn about the benefits of eating healthy fruits and vegetables. UMD Voyageurs fuses the energy and drama of musical performance with current issues faced by children and youth.
