Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
Financial Aid Suspension
After the SAP review is complete, students are notified of their SAP status via their University e-mail accounts.
You will automatically be placed on Financial Aid Suspension if you:
- are dismissed from your collegiate unit (see Admission Requirement)
- do not meet ALL SAP minimum cumulative standards (GPA, credit completion ratio, and timeframe) by the end of your probation term.
While on Financial Aid Suspension:
• You become ineligible for most aid programs, including federal, state, campus, and other aid sources.
• You will be responsible for any debts incurred at the University, regardless of your academic status.
• You may continue to attend UMD at your own expense; or to help fund your education, you may pursue funding through alternative loan programs that do not require you to meet SAP standards. Some programs available to you are: Citiassist, US Bank Gap Loan, US Bank No Fee Loan, and/or Wells Fargo Collegiate Loan.
If you are placed on Financial Aid Suspension:
• You have the right to appeal your status. The Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal form is available online, or can be obtained at the Student Assistance Center. Submitting an appeal does not guarantee that your aid will be reinstated.
If you had a recent grade change, are studying abroad, have graduated, or have questions regarding this policy or your status, please contact the Student Assistance Center.
