Gifts

Our dept is a strong department central to the international world of the 21st century, with faculty who have won multiple teaching awards, have extensive scholarly and creative writing publications, and have prepared our students for successful careers in, among others, academics, law, medicine, and business. Our students have garnered competitive scholarships and research grants and have held prestigious positions throughout the world after graduation. One of our aims is to make available to our students opportunities to study abroad so they can work towards becoming bilingual and bicultural. In that manner, they will become better able to participate in the global economy of the 21st century and serve as ambassadors of cultural understanding in this shrinking world. We strongly encourage study abroad, and currently approximately 90% of our majors do in fact study abroad. However, economic difficulties make that pace problematic. Furthermore, our goal is that 100% of our students study abroad. We also hope to have more students majoring in our programs, in particular students who might want to double major.

For Scholarships

To support students, be it abroad or here at UMD, we have several scholarships which were established by very generous donors. Such tax-deductible gift provides our students with the needed encouragement and financial support in these time of tight financing.
