STUDY ABROAD:
- The Department considers studying abroad a very important part of any education in a foreign language and its culture. It makes every effort to encourage and facilitate students' participation in both short and long programs, and sponsors several programs itself, including study in Guanajuato (Mexico) and Potsdam (Germany). A new program in Salamanca (Spain) is planned for Summer 2009.
- The International Education Office collaborates with the Department in making studying abroad easy and productive.
- Information on various study abroad programs is available in Humanities 452 and in the International Studies Office.
- Students should consult with faculty in the early stages of planning their study abroad program, and they should have worked out which courses will transfer to UMD for credit toward the major or minor.
- Students may be able to apply their financial aid to study abroad.
POTSDAM, GERMANY
Michael Mullins leads a group of students on a study abroad program in Potsdam, Germany, in May or January, depending on the year. The trip lasts three weeks and students receive 4-6 credits toward their major or minor program. See Michael Mullins (H 453; mmullins@d.umn.edu) for details.
GUANAJUATO, MEXICO
Every May, immediately following final exams week, Andrew Snustad will continue our long-standing study abroad program in Guanajuato, Mexico. The trip lasts three weeks and students receive 4-6 credits toward their major or minor program. See Professor Snustad (H 489; asnustad@d.umn.edu) for details.
SALAMANCA, SPAIN
Professor Maureen Tobin Stanley hopes to lead a group of students to Spain for four weeks in August 2009. Students will receive 6 credits toward their major or minor program. See Professor Tobin Stanley (H 461; mtobinst@d.umn.edu) for details.
