UMD's present campus consists of more than 50 buildings totaling 2.6 million square feet on 244 acres overlooking Lake Superior. All the structures have been built since 1948. Other UMD facilities include the Research and Field Studies Center on 280 acres, Glensheen Mansion on 7.6 acres, Lower Campus on 3 acres, the Limnological Research Center and the Natural Resources Research Institute.
