Where is it located?Visit the UMD Rain Garden on College Street near the Lund Building (Google Maps link). Interpretive signs and self-guided tour brochures can be found along the sidewalk. Flowers bloom from as early as March to September. What is a rain garden?It is a landscaping feature that is planted with native perennial plants and is used to manage stormwater runoff from impervious surfaces such as roofs, sidewalks, and parking lots. |
The UMD Rain Garden is composed of plantings, a drain tile system, and a water level control system. It can hold as much as 60,000 gallons of water.
