THE WEDDING PAGE

This day I will marry my friend, the one I laugh with, live for, dream with, love...anonymous

Thank you for selecting UMD Catering for your very special day! It is our goal to provide you with the best in customer service and dining satisfaction. UMD's catering staff takes pride in every event they are involved with and your reception will be no exception.

The first, and perhaps the most important, step in the planning process is to be sure there is a room available for your special day. Please call the Kirby Student Center Reservation desk at 218-726-7166 to make your room reservation. At the time you make your reservation the staff will provide you with all the information you will need regarding the room rental and set up arrangements.

Below you will find a list of frequently asked questions:

  • How many guests can your facility accommodate? Kirby Ballroom is able to accommodate up to 350 guests, with the option of adding another 50 place settings in an adjoining room.
  • Are there any guidelines for selecting our menu? Yes. If your event is over 100 guests, we ask that you select a Wedding Buffet Menu choice. For more intimate gatherings (under 100 guests) we will be happy to customize a served menu to your specifications.
  • Do you provide the linens? Yes. UMD Catering will provide white linen table cloths (for guest tables as well as all serving tables) and linen napkins for your dinner guests. Linen napkins come in an array of colors to match or contrast with your wedding colors. In addition to linen table cloths, the head table and all service tables will have white linen skirting, which adds a touch of elegance to your event.
  • What about decorations? UMD Catering has many beautiful decorations that you are welcome to work into your decorating theme. Items such as, mirrored tiles, hurricane lamps and rose bowls, are yours to use at no extra cost (provided the items are currently in stock). We provide two votive candles per guest table. A favorite of many wedding parties are icicle lights, which we provide, hidden discreetly beneath the linen skirting on several tables. Due to health concerns, any flowers that you wish to use must come from an approved florist and not a home garden.
  • Do you supply glasses, plates, and silverware? Yes, with the exception of any glasses needed for your bar area. Your dinner tables will look elegant with our stemware and china dishes.
  • Can we select our own baker for the wedding cake? Yes, provided that the cake comes from a certified, commercial kitchen.
  • Is there an extra fee for cake-cutting? There are no extra fees for having catering staff members cut and serve your cake.
  • We are planning on serving alcohol at our reception, will there be any extra charges for that? At the time you make your reservation the staff will inform you of University policies pertaining to having alcohol at your event. Please note that a "cash bar" is against Regent's policy and can not be allowed, only an "open bar" is allowed. You will need to procure your own alcohol and bartender(s), and all alcohol must be delivered to UMD Catering two days prior to your event between the hours of 10:00 am and 2:00 pm (if not, extra handling fees will be applied). There is a $100 set up and handling charge if you wish to have a full bar open to your guests and a $25 set up and handling fee for a wine and/or beer set up. UMD Catering can serve a glass of wine or champagne with dinner, with a charge of $0.25 per guest for the glassware and serving.
  • Are there any "hidden" charges we should be aware of? Other than 9% sales tax, no! There are no gratuities accepted and other than alcohol service and handling fees mentioned above, your menu price includes everything else!
  • Any other details? Please print the attached planner. UMD Catering will need the answers to these questions when we meet to plan your event.

You have been dreaming of the perfect wedding day for a very long time! Our catering staff welcomes the opportunity to help you fulfill that dream.
