Suggested Items to Bring
for On-Campus Housing

Uncertain about what to bring to campus? We polled current UMD students, and they've put together this list. Remember, every student may not need every item!

  • Laundry basket, detergent, bleach, etc.
  • Quarters for wash (Laundry is free to on-campus residents)
  • Microwave (max 1000 watts in Residence Halls) – check with roommate
  • Television – check with roommate
  • Radio/Stereo – check with roommate(s)
  • Favorite CDs, Tapes, etc.
  • Alarm Clock - two if a night owl
  • Bath towels, washcloths
  • Bedding – extra long sheets
  • Shower kit & caddy
    (shampoo/ conditioner, soap, shave gel, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.)
  • Flip-flops
  • Robe
  • Clothes for the season…probably don’t need everything
  • Dishes, silverware, storage containers
  • Snack foods
  • Small lamp
  • Full-length mirror
  • Storage containers for under bed & other small places
  • Small organizers
  • Shoe shelf or closet organizer
  • Hangers
  • Toys as interested (sporting equipment, games, cards, instruments etc.)
  • Backpack
  • School Supplies – Pencils, Pens, Paper, Notebook, Planner
  • Dictionary & Thesaurus
  • Computer if own one – check with roommate
  • Checking Account Information
  • Cash or travelers checks to get started
  • Insurance Information
  • Addresses and Important Contact Information
  • Credit Card for emergency – discuss need and use cautiously!
  • Long distance phone service to meet individual need
